Welcome to Anywhere Italy
We are Peter and Sophia. We moved to Italy from Hungary in 2022, and we live in Pietrasanta, on the coast of Tuscany. Peter writes the words, Sophia takes the photographs. Anywhere Italy is our love project, and this page is for that.
Italy has nearly 8,000 towns. Travelers hear about 50 of them, visit 5, and queue there, while a few valleys away small towns empty out for lack of anyone at all.
Our goal is to cover 1,000 of the towns most travelers skip, and to write about a place, a festival, or a plate of food only if we have stood in front of it. Money spent in a town of a few hundred people is visible in the till, and every piece we write is a small argument that the trip is better there anyway.
A travel that is more sustainable and more respectful to the locals’ way of life. Meanwhile, you, traveler, you get shorter queues, better tables, and people who still register that you came.
Being immigrants ourselves, we write about local life and customs as much as we do about the views, because that is what we had to learn.

The 1,000 Towns
The newsletter is where the writing lives. The reference underneath it is our towns site: a page for every one of the 1,000 towns, every way into the catalog sorted by what you actually want, and a planner that turns a few answers into a route.
We also have generated articles on top of the database that give you some basic ideas on where to go and what to visit. The towns site is entirely free to read and use, not even email gated.

We collect our pictures and videos on Instagram. Sophia handles that channel, the only social media channel we are active on (plus Substack). However, we autopost and generate all of our content to various social media platforms, including:
